What is a Silversmith?
People often get confused between a jeweller and a silversmith.  As the name implies, a jeweller designs and creates all things jewellery related, but  a silversmith is a metalworker who crafts objects, tableware, cutlery and vessels from silver or other precious metals - E.g vases, containers, bowls, wine coasters candlestick holders and cocktail stirrers.

Class level:
Level 2 and above, suitable for those with previous experience of piercing and soldering.

All ages welcome. You are never too old to learn a new skill.

Outline:
The aim of this class is to give you the opportunity to experiment with silversmithing, by making a round container. This can take the form of either a little pill box or a larger trinket container. Depending on how the time goes, you can decorate your container, by adding texture to just the lid or the entire piece. Or you can add a bezel or tube setting , or solder an element to the top of the lid. Another option would be to pierce a design into the lid or the sides.

For this class you will make the container in copper - however if you'd like to make it in silver, you can either supply your own, or contact Tracy before hand to purchase silver on the day. Cost will be dependant on silver prices at the time.
