What is a silversmith?
People often get confused between a jeweller and a silversmith. As the name implies, a jeweller designs and creates all things jewellery related, but a silversmith is a metalworker who crafts objects, tableware, cutlery and vessels from silver or other precious metals - E.g vases, containers, bowls, wine coasters candlestick holders and cocktail stirrers.
Class level:
Intermediate and above. Suitable for those who have good piercing skills All ages welcome. You are never too old to learn a new skill. Outline: The aim of this class is to give you the opportunity to experiment with silversmithing, by making a wine coaster. For this class you will make the container in copper or brass - however if you'd like to do it in silver, you can either supply your own, or contact Tracy to purchase silver on the day. You will pierce out your chosen design - either your own, or we have a couple of design sketches which you could you use. Depending on your piercing skills, these designs can be as simple or as complex as you like. You will pierce out the sides of the This intimate unisex class in our Liverpool workshop, is a great environment to develop your creativity and do something fun with like-minded people. It also offers the opportunity to make lovely original gifts, . This is suitable for students who are confident in their piercing and soldering skills. The course runs for 5 hours, but can on occasion run over to allow students to complete their project. Please bring a packed lunch with you. For students between the ages of 16-18 you will need written consent from a parent. |
