Pierced Tea Light Holder
What is a Silversmith?
People often get confused between a jeweller and a silversmith.  As the name implies, a jeweller designs and creates all things jewellery related, but  a silversmith is a metalworker who crafts objects, tableware, cutlery and vessels from silver or other precious metals - e.g vases, containers, bowls, wine coasters candlestick holders, cocktail stirrers and more.

Class level:
Intermediate and above. Suitable for those who have good piercing skills
All ages welcome. You are never too old to learn a new skill.

Outline: 
The aim of this class is to give you the opportunity to experiment with silversmithing, by making a scenic pierced ( cut out) tea light holder.

For this class you will make the container in copper - however if you'd like to do it in silver, you can either supply your own, or contact Tracy to purchase silver on the day. 

You will pierce out your chosen design - either your own, or we have a couple of design sketches which you could you use.
Depending on your piercing skills, these designs can be as simple or as complex as you like. You will pierce out the surrounding sides of the tea light holder, to allow the flickering light to show through your design.

This intimate unisex class in our Liverpool workshop, is a great environment to develop your creativity and do something fun with like-minded people. It also offers the opportunity to make lovely original gifts. This is suitable for students who are confident in their piercing and soldering skills.

​The course runs for 4 hours, but can on occasion run over to allow students to complete  their project.

​For students between the ages of 16-18 you will need written consent from a parent.

  • Designing and measuring your piece
  • Piercing 
  • Texturing, Sanding and Polishing

Tools used - all tools provided
  • Piercing saw
  • Soldering torch
  • Mandrills
  • Files
  • Hammers

  • Copper (Silver available to purchase. Please contact Tracy)
  • All consumables

  • Unlimited, tea, coffee and biscuits available. 

What to Bring:

This is a workshop environment, so your well being and safety is important to us. To ensure this is a safe - but fun environment for you to learn in; we ask that you please:
​
  • Wear comfortable old clothing, or bring an apron. Ear defenders and safety glasses are provided.
  • Long hair to be tied back. 
  • No loose flowing scarves, long sleeves or jewellery to be worn. These can easily get caught up in machinery.
  • Closed flat shoes - no sandals allowed.
  • Spectacles, if needed for close up work.
  • Notebook and pencil. Although we do provide some hand outs, you may want to take your own notes or draw sketches.​
