Organic Casting - Water
Class level:
Suitable for complete beginners. No experience needed for this fun class Outline: For this class we use the big torches. For those who have not yet used a Smiths Little torch or the propane gas torches, you will be inducted into the use of them. But have no fear, they are simple to use and there is always a tutor on hand when you use them. We will show you how to melt your silver in a crucible, and then pour the molten metal into a bowl of water. Each pour will result in completely random and unique organic shapes. No two pieces will ever be the same. If you are not happy with your shape, you can simply melt your metal and try again. Once you have a couple of pieces you are happy with, you will then have the opportunity to turn them into unique jewellery designs - either by making a pendant or a pair of earrings. We will also have some pearls you can add to your design. We will provide all the tools, and a small amount of silver casting grain. You are welcome to bring any of your own silver scrap to melt down too. Alternatively, you can purchase additional grain from me on the day or your preferred silver supplier. We generally purchase ours from Cooksongold, which is where we purchase ours. https://www.cooksongold.com/Grain-and-Casting-Pieces/Sterling-Silver-Grain,-100--------Recycled-Silver-prcode-ASA-000&query=silver%20grain&channel=uk Alternatively, you can purchase silver grain from Tracy on the day. Let Tracy know 1 week in advance, so she can also order it in for you. Silver prices change daily, so prices will be dependant on silver prices are at the time of ordering. The class will run for 4- 5 hours - from 1.00pm - 5.00 pm. PLEASE NOTE! ABSOLUTELY NO ALUMINIUM OR PEWTER TO BE USED. SILVER ONLY Tutors: Tracy Hills and Keith Taylor Price: £110.00 Date: To be confirmed. Please contact Tracy to register your interest in this class. Time: 1.00 - 5.00 (We can run later if you have not completed your piece) |
