Casting - water, pasta, rock salt and more
|
Skill Level:
Suitable for beginners, however some jewellery making skills would be an advantage. About this class: The ancient art of lost wax casting is the traditional way of metal casting, but there are a lot of quick and easy ways to cast your metal at home. You can use casting grain, or scrap metal. Being able to use up your old scrap is a huge advantage, and eliminates costly waste. In the class we show you how you can melt your metal, and then by either pouring the molten metal into water, or over food products or even soaked broom. Each technique provides a completely different shape. Tutors: Tracy Hills and Amber Hills Price: £115.00 Date: 2nd May 2025 (fully booked) Time: 18.30 - 9.00pm (We can run later if you have not completed your piece) |

Class level:
Suitable for complete beginners. No experience needed for this fun class Outline: For this class we use the big soldering torches. For those who have not yet used a Smith's Little torch or a propane gas torch, you will be inducted into the use of them. But have no fear, they are simple to use and there is always a tutor on hand when you use them. We will show you how to melt your silver in a crucible. You can then choose what you'd like to pour your metal into - water, salt, or pasta. Each pour will result in completely random and unique organic shapes. No two pieces will ever be the same. If you are not happy with your shape, you can simply melt your silver and try again. Once you have a couple of pieces you are happy with, you will then have the opportunity to turn them into unique jewellery designs - by making a charm, or a ring or pendant. We will provide all the tools and an amount of silver casting grain. You are welcome to bring any of your own silver scrap or grain to melt down too. Or you can purchase extra silver grain from Tracy on the day. PLEASE NOTE! ABSOLUTELY NO ALUMINIUM OR PEWTER TO BE USED. SILVER ONLY Tutors: Tracy Hills and amber Hills Price: £115.00 Date: 2nd May 2025 (fully booked) Time: 18.30 - 9.00pm (We can run later if you have not completed your piece) |
