Mini Finishing and Polishing Workshop.
Suitable for those who have some jewellery making skills, and are wanting to develop their jewellery making skills

​Traditional polishers take years of training to develop their skills. However, unless you are training to be a polisher - we as jeweller's just want to finish off our work to a professional and high standard of work. With a little bit of knowledge and practice you can do so.

Time: 6.15 - 9.15  (We can run later if you have not completed your piece)

Class level:  Intermediate/Advanced. Suitable for those with a good level of jewellery making skills.

​What to Expect
During this course, you will first be shown hand techniques of filing and polishing, - including how to make buff sticks.

We will then move on to using both a traditional polishing machine and also a pendant motor, and the different mops and wheels which can be used for both.

You will be have time to try out all the different methods. You will receive an allocation of copper and brass polish, but please bring along your own work to polish on the day. 

As an added bonus - Tracy will also show you to etch your metal using texturing wheels.

Techniques covered in each class:​
  • How to hand file with files and emery papers
  • How to make buff sticks
  • Learn about the different compounds
  • Learn about different mops and silicone wheels
  • Use polishing machine
  • Use a pendant motor
  • Using templates - etch a design onto your metal

Materials Provided:
An allocation of copper and brass. You can purchase more from Tracy on the day.
If you'd like to work in silver, you can pay a surcharge - or provide your own.

You can also bring along any of your own work that you'd like to polish

​Refreshments:
  • Tea, Coffee and biscuits provided.
 What to Bring:
This is a workshop environment, so your well being and safety is important to us. To ensure this is a safe - but fun environment for you to learn in, we ask that you please:
​
  • Wear comfortable old clothing, or bring an apron. Ear defenders and safety glasses are provided.
  • Long hair to be tied back. 
  • No loose flowing scarves, long sleeves or jewellery to be worn. These can easily get caught up in machinery.
  • Closed flat shoes - no sandals allowed.
  • Spectacles, if needed for close up work.
  • Notebook and pencil. Although we do provide some hand outs, you may want to take your own notes or draw sketches.​
