Claw or Basket Setting Pendant or Ring

Outline: 
You will need some traditional soldering skills for this setting. During this 3 hour class, Hannah our experienced stone setter will guide you through the different stones and shapes suitable for claw setting and will then take you through all the steps, of  creating your own claw setting - which you will then put into practice.  You will learn 

Claw settings are very versatile and can be used in all sorts of jewellery pieces - stud earrings/pendants, brooches and of course rings. They can also be used for any shape, round, square, oval, pear etc.

  • Sizing and measuring your stone.​
  • Cutting the seat
  • Soldering to either a bail or a ring shank.
  • Setting the stone
  • Polishing

    ​Claw settings are very versatile and can be used in all sorts of jewellery pieces - stud earrings/pendants, brooches and of course rings. They can also be used for any shape, round, square, oval, pear etc.
Class level: 
Intermediate. A reasonable knowledge of soldering is essential for this 1 day workshop.

All ages above 18 welcome. You are never too old to learn a new skill.

Materials provided:
  • Silver wire and  and silver tubing
  • Cubic zirconias - Your choice of  colour
  • You will be able to purchase metal and  stones on the day.

  • ​Refreshments:
    Unlimited, tea, coffee and biscuits available. 

    What to Bring:
  • Wear old clothes, or bring an apron. Safety glasses will be provided
  • Long hair to be tied back. 
  • No long flowing sleeves or scarves. These can get caught in machinery
  • Closed shoes - no sandals.
  • Spectacles if you need them for close up work
  • Notebook and pencil
