Silversmithing Courses

What is a silversmith?

People often get confused between a jeweller and a silversmith.  As the name implies, a jeweller designs and creates all things jewellery related, but  a silversmith is a metalworker who crafts objects and vessels from silver or other precious metals. E.g vases, containers, wine coasters and cocktail swizzle sticks

Typically, a silversmith will aim to create larger scale work for functional and/or decorative purposes; for example,  candle sticks, tableware, flatware or functional vessels like a vase or goblet.  Techniques also include chasing and repousse, engraving and raising flat sheet into vases and vessels.

It takes many years to learn and perfect some of these techniques.

Here at Metal and Flame, we will take you through some of the basics of silversmithing, by creating some decorative pieces, E.g a pill or trinket box,  a decorative tea light or candle holder, cocktail swizzle sticks, and wine coasters.
