Class level:
Advanced. Suitable for those with a good level of jewellery making skills. All ages over 16 welcome.

Outline:
We understand that students might not be confident to make their first locket in sterling silver, so for this class we will be making a practice piece in your choice of either copper or brass. If you are confident and would like to make it in sterling silver or gold, there will be an extra charge for precious metals, or you can supply your own. With enough advance notice, Tracy can also order in silver or gold for you, in time for your lesson.

Using traditional jewellery making tools and skills, you will measure and pierce out your locket - top, bottom and sides in your chosen metal. You will dome the top and bottom, and solder them to the sides. You will then file away a section for the hinge to sit.

You will then be shown how to make your hinge using silver tubing and wire.  Accuracy is key to getting a good fit.

Finally you will attach a little catch inside the locket and a bail.

The last stage will be filing and polishing your locket.

This cosy unisex class which is held in our Liverpool workshop, is also a great environment to develop your creativity and do something fun with like-minded people. It also offers the opportunity to make lovely original gifts.
